Sindy Our Pedigree Girl Of The 60's

The English Rose in 60's Clothes

The Swinging Hit of 1963 !

1963-1985. Pedigree Dolls and Toys Limited. Sindy is a registered trademark of Pedigree Dolls And Toys Limited.

The 'story' of Sindy begins in 1963, when she was first released. Toy shops were furnished with Sindy stands, dolls and her outfits and seperates, delivered by sales reps in Ford Anglia vans with 'Sindy, the doll you love to dress' printed on the sides.

Along with all this new merchandise came a 'gramaphone record', a vinyl 45 rpm one sided single, which promoted Sindy by means of a chirpy tune all about her, the song was actually more spoken than sung by the 'lead singer' , a stiff male BBC English accent annouces "Who is the belle of every ball ? Who wears the prettiest dress of them all ? Who is the girl they all love the best ? It's Sindy-The doll you love to dress !"

The chorus singers then pick the pace up with some very Pinky and Perky style singing, "Sindy, sweet Sindy...." As if all this wasn't enough to have children dragging their parents to the nearest toy shop, Pedigree did something they had never done before, they advertised Sindy on TV. Although they had advertised many times before, their comercials always featured a whole range of their toys, but Sindy was to get star treatment, a comercial all of her very own ! Well, with all that, and of course, the fact that Sindy is such a peach, she sold in the thousands.
