Sindy Our Pedigree Girl Of The 60's

In 1965 Sindy had her very own Annual, simply called ' Sindy Gift Book '..So very handy for both Christmas and Birthday presents. The inside covers were printed with line drawings of our favourite girl in a number of outfits including Skating Girl, Sweet Swimmer, Undie World, Leather Looker and Dream Date.

Stories, all in Line drawing/cartoon form included 'Sindys Ride', where she saves a baby in a pram from a river ! On horse back no less ! 'Cats in the Belfry', where Paul rescues Patch from a belfrey where the steps have given way beneath Patch, 'Sindy In Trouble', A Fab long story involving a Sindy look-a-like !  'Patch to the rescue', Patch rescues a man from the path of an oncoming train. and 'Helter Skelter At The Fair' Sindy, Patch and a pig are involved in this 'detective' story.

Also included is an article on the Peoples Dispensary For Sick Animals, Make yourself an octopus pyjama case, Fabric 'aplique' wall hanging, paint pretty patterns and pictures on stones and wooden spoons, Re-vamp your bedroom to make it more ´grown up', Make a cat and bird mobile, Patch teaches us how to paint pictures, Make a skating skirt just like Sindys, or use the same pattern to make a cape ! Make a 3D picture using a vase of flowers and a picture frame, An article on a beach club for children in France, a Piece on Sindys hair switch and which style suits you, 'Know your pony', Make a vase of paper flowers...and more !!!!!!!! A great first annual with lots of Sindys fashions and fun stories etc...

Sindy's Pony Gift Book followed. A real must for anyone interested in horses and ponies, or collecting Sindy's Equestrian outfits and accessories.  This book also features stories, including ' Pop goes The Pony',involving a pop star !, 'Sindy's Pony Club' , 'Boot On The Other Hoof !, 'A Mind Of His Own', 'Horse Medicine', and 'Sindy Side Saddle'..also loads of intersting and educational articles on Pony Trekking, Looking after a horses tack, performing ponies, How to make a halter, Gymkhana's, Mini ponies, taking good photo's of ponies and horses, How to make a fly switch, Pony Camp, Blacksmiths, A pony quiz and pony trekking game, and how to draw a pony...Phew, packed to the gills with great info and stories, this one really is great fun.

1966 saw Patch sharing the front, and back cover with her big sister Sindy. Although Patch had already been featured in the last two book. The inside covers featured line drawings as usual, this time of the Sindy, Paul and Patch wearing, Winter Holiday, Seaside, Dungarees, London Look and Emergency Ward, amongst others.

Stories included 'that rascal Patch Ahoy !', poor Patch learns the hard way about boating ! 'A Pig For that rascal Patch' , Sindy wins a pig at a bowling competition at the local fair !, 'Sindy Takes Over' a lovely story about Sindy and Patch staying at their grandfathers, 'that rascal Patch-Underground Heroine'..no not drugs ! God forbid ! Patch rescues Paul from a pot hole.And 'With A Picnic In Viwe', Sindy, Paul and Patch go on a picnic, and 'adventure' follows them as usual.

Articles include The R.S.P.C.A. Ten Pin Bowling, which also features a great picture of Sindy at the bowling alley in her bowling outfit, Making a winter coat for Ringo, Parachuting !, a joke page featuring some very 'of their time' jokes like...'Why isn't your nose twelve inches long ?......If it were, it would be a foot !....GROAN !!! Ha Ha......Make finger puppets, great fun. Various activity holidays including Gipsy Caravan, Barge, Ski-ing, Climbing, 'Messing about In Boats', Hobby Holidays and much more !!! Beware of Dangerous flowers. Taking good photographs. Caroline Charles the fashion designer....and sooo much more !!!!!! Another great annual packed with fun on every single page.

The 1971 annual, also issued without a year on the cover, as is this one, featured a cover with what looks like the 'New Look' Sidepart Sindy in her 'Beach Time Girl' fashion, although she wears a skirt here, rather than yellow bermuda shorts. By now, Sindy was issued with a centre parting and also as the all new Trendy Girl, but I'm guessing that the annuals were started a year before they were actually released, so this may explain why they seem a little out of date by the time they were released ? Paul and Patch were also featured, even though Paul was no longer available.Even the fashions pages, where you can make yourself an outfit just like Sindy's, featured 1968's 'Smock Dress' and Trouser suit' and 1969's 'Trendsetter' dress, also included was Sindy's 1963 cape.

A great annual never-the-less, packed as usual, full of stories and features. Stories included..'Sindy's Hi-Jack Adventure' which probably wouldn't go down too well in todays 'climate' !..'The Lost Ballerina' a great stroy about a missing Ballerina and a tropical Island, this doesn't feature any of the Sindy set. 'Sindy's Rainy Day', Sindy hets to show off her fabulous fahion designs, 'Patch's Danger Trail, Sindy and Patch go on a camping adventure, see them in 'Carefree camping' and 'Brownie'. 'Sindy's 'Stand in' Adventure' more fashion linked adventure for Sindy, 'Neddy's A Knockout' another Story that doesn't feature the Sindy set, as is 'Moily At Castle Bay. 'Pixie-Where Are You ?' Horse fun with Sindy and Patch.And 'The Blue Flowers Of Fortune' an old folk legend from Scandinavia.

Feature pages include a board game, puzzle page, growing 'easy' indoor plants, Sindy in Spain, Autumn In The Countryside, Recipies with oranges, Make it In Leather..... and more !!A great read for 'adults' and children alike.

The cover of 1972's Sindy Annual features Sindy wearing 1971's 'Weekend' , pictured also with Patch in 'Tobogganing', and Poppet, introduced back in 1968.The inside covers featured very 70's graphic drawings of the three in various outfits including, 'Shopping In The Rain, 'Housework', 'Bedtime', 'Winter Time', 'Pony Club', Easter Parade...and more..also featured was Vicki, dancing at a record player with Sindy wearing 'Cocktail Time'.

It's intersting to see that Sindy featured in this annual has pig tails, although there was no Sindy like this until the 80's ? Maybe she was wearing her hair switch ? She is also seen as the New Look Sidepart.

 Stories in this annual included, 'Sindy Takes Over' a fashion related story, 'The Saving Of Castle Tarroch' no Sindy set in this one, but a great story. 'A Deal In Hearts' Sindy, Patch and Poppet in the Highlands. 'Smugglers Island' , high adventure with Patch and Poppet. 'Sindy's Cruising Adventure', nothing to do with Hamstead Heath ! Sindy, Paul and Patch on an adventurious Cruise holiday. 'Don't Blame Dick Turpin' an 'historical' story. 'Sarah And The Secret Drawer', a great story sure to light up every childs eyes to fantasy and adventure. ' The Sea Bees' Another story not to feature The Sindy Set, but great fun, a touch of 'Stingray' about this one. 'Tricky For Patch', Patch tries to do good and ends up in all sorts of trouble !  'Sindy And The Night Of The Leprechauns', another really fun story.

Features include..making your very own Sindy outfits to wear yourself, including 'Weekend and 'Bridesmaid, 'Go Gay The Mexican Way' ! Adding colourful designs to bags, hats, books and lampshades. Puzzle pages, Making Chocolate Truffles and Toffee...and as usual...Much, much more............

1973's Sindy Annual features the whole gang on the front cover, even though Sindy was the only survivor of the Sindy Set by now.  The 1971 Lovely Lively Sindy ( wearing pig tails again ?) sits at the patio table with Vicki, Patch and Paul. Even Ringo is included.

Stories include, 'On With The Dance', see Sindy wearing 'Queen Of The Ball'. 'Sindy's Rhineland Adventure', Sindy in her 'Town and Country' outfit is joined by Patch and Paul for an adventure in a castle. 'Petra Takes A Chance', no Sindy Set in this story,, but a really good plot. 'The Runaway', a winter/Christmas adventure, see Sindy in 'Skater' and Midi Look'. 'Watch The Birdie', Patch is given a camera for her birthday, fun and 'adventure' follows, see Sindy in 'College Girl' and 'Summer Dress'. 'The Wishing Well Ballet', another adventure not to feature The Sindy Set. 'Fashion Goes Pop', Sindy is rewarded for a good turn. 'The Rebel Princess', a fun story of Sindy's encounter with a spoilt young princess, features 'Blouse and Belt', 'College Girl', 'Disco Party' and 'Midi and Blouse'.'Sindy In Canada', High adventure in Canada for Sindy, Patch and Paul. ' Send For Patch', Poor Patch tries to help out again but gets into all sorts of scrapes. 'Orphans Of The Wilds' read all about poor Laura and how things turn out just fine in the end for her. 'Big Top Mystery' what's going on at the circus, Sindy finds out the truth and unviels a sabator.'The Ghost Of Mornington Manor', no Sindy Set here, but a great read.

Winter Party food and drinks, Taking photo's of your pets...the list goes on, another great read that must have thrilled children everywhere.

Well we said goodbye to Sindy with a fringe way back in the late 60's, but here on the front cover of the 1974 Sindy annual is Sindy with a long pageboy haircut. Patch and Paul also still feature in the stories, I just hope that children out there had their big sisters dolls still, so they could 'live out' the FAB Sindy stories in this annual.

Stories included, 'Christmas At Cardray', see Sindy in 'Skater' and 'Queen of The Ball' ,and Paul in 'Winter Sports'. 'Sindy's Showboat' high adventure on an old Steamer. 'Aunt Jemima's Circus', no Sindy Set here, but another great adventure mystery. 'Stand-In for Danger',  Patch is kidnapped ! Adventure follows hot on her tail. 'Prickly Patch' a spooky story of Sindy and Patch's caravan holiday. 'Julies Pet Monster'..no Sindy set again, a fun story featuring a time machine ! 'More Than a Tomboy' , Harriet hates girls clothes and in fact, hates being a girl, read what happens when she runs away to try and follow in her fathers footsteps. 'The Phantom Of The Mist', set in Northern Spain, a story of peasants and priests. 'Moor Mystery', introducing the Peewit gang, very 'Famous Five' even though there are only 4, and a dog, Toby !..'Sindy On Stage', Paul has an admirer and Sindy isn't pleased ! 'Material Evidence', High drama for Sindy and some former dessmaking students.'Matchmaker Patch' , Patch tries her hand at matching making at school, with the teachers ! 'Flying High', more fun at the circus for Sindy.
