Sindy's nightwear selection through the years..........

Ever since children first had 'Sleepytime' to dress Sindy in before tucking her up in her 'Hollywood Style Bed' Sindy has been issued with a wonderful selection of nightwear, ranging from baby dolls to Victorian full length night gowns complete with mop caps ! Here's a selection of Nightwear through the 'ages'.......

Here's an early selection of nightwear, mostly picking up on the fashionable Baby Doll look of the 60's and early 70's. Left to right, Brunette Sindy in 'Sleepytime' (1963) with it's crisp cotton gingham and white lace trim....Vicki wears 'Sweet Dreams' (1971) raspberry nylon and white lace, this also came with the same blue curlers as Sleepytime....Titian Sindy wears 'Frosty Nights' (1965) rich red brush cotton pyjama's with funky 'pedal' pusher style bottoms, and Sidepart Sindy wears 'Bedtime Beauty' (also 1971) pink nylon shirt style baby doll with matching panties (this came in different colour spots, I have an odd set ! so if anyone out there can swap so we both have a matching set !?)

On the opposite end of the bedtime spectrum are Sindy's full length nighties and housecoats, always made in the prettiest patterned crisp cottons, with lace and ribbon trimmings, she couldn'd fail to have sweet dreams in any of these beautiful ensembles.

From left to right..Titain Beach Party wears 'Night Cap' (1984 Designer series) really pretty peach cotton with tiny white polka dots all over, the nightie is smocked with shoulder straps and finished in white lace in a sort of heart design, the house coat has gathered cuffs and a high collar to keep Sindy toasty warm, she wears a mop cap for the coldest of nights, and carries a little toilet bag to match. Active Ballerina wears 'Good Morning' (1978), a pretty white cotton nightie and house coat covered in tiny white polka dots and deep pink flowers, and white lace to finish the hems cuffs and collar. Almost the same as this set is 'Sleep Tight' (1974) worn here by 1976 Funtime Sindy (with a boil perm bubble style) just a slight difference in that the collar is lace only and the shoulder straps are lace rather than ribbon. The colours on this set are really lovely, lemon, pale pink and green with pale pink lace, a really fresh design. 1970's basic Brunette Sindy wears 'Sleep Tight' (1981) one of my personal favourites, a wonderful set trimmed in heart shaped lace, a flowing red ribbon and bow hang down from the bodice to pick out the deep red polka dots against the crisp white cotton, this also came with a hot water bottle ! A really simple design, but Sindy looks so cute in it !

Detail of 'Sleep Tight' with the hot water bottle, which in fact was just a case !? Made in soft white fleece.

And talking of cute, who could resist these fun bed time sets ! Basic 80's Sindy wears 'Warm and Cosy' (1982) a nightshirt in red and white striped cotton (button added by me !) with a white lace stand up collar gives a twist on the Victorian nightshirt worn by men at the time, to keep Sindy  'warm and cosy' she wears a snuggly thick terry cotton house coat in rich yolk yellow trimmed in white broderie anglais type lace with red edging and dots, really unusual, but it looks great ! Sindy wears toasty fuffy slippers to match.'Sunshine Daily' wears 'Dream Time' (1983) which must surley be one of the cutest bed time outfits Sindy was ever given, picking up on the Victorian theme yet again, this time underwear inspired this sweet top and pyjama bottoms. More crisp white cotton was used, coveerd in pretty red, turquoise and yellow flowers, the top has a deep pink ribbon threaded around the top and ends in a bow at the front, the shoulder straps match, the bottoms are finished in pretty pink and white lace and Sindy wears soft pinky fluffy slippers on her dainty feet.Party Time Sindy wears a wonderful Wee Willie Winkie set ! Again picked right out of Victorian times ! 'Warm and Cosy' used the nightshirt idea, this time full length, in wonderful white soft cotton jersey with deep blue and red stripes, blue sleeves and red 'collar' , her fun night cap matched and had jaunty tassles at the end. More fluffy slippers were provided for this oufit, this time in midnight blue.

'Warm and Cosy' (1981) must strike a note with many collectors ! The 'electric shock' inducing brush nylon nightie ! Almost fatal if combined with nylon sheets ! But, that being said, I love this cute little nightie, it has lovely styling with it's cute pin tucks on the yoke and down the front of the dress, gathered 'cuffs' and pretty white heart shaped lace trimming, teamed with baby blue matching fluffy slippers Sindy looks so snug and cosy. All that's missing is a cuddly Teddy Bear !

'Pink and Frilly' (1980)was a beautiful nightie taken straight out of the Regency period, one of Sindy's prettiest in my opinion. 'Bighton Rock' pink and white were perfect for a night at the Pavillion !A luxurious inset of thick cotton in a stylised flower design flowed from the smock style bodice, as did a beautiful long pink ribbon and bow. The sleeves were short and puffed , with pink and white lace edges, which was used also in  two layers at the hem of the dress.

Sindy is 'High and Dry' in 1976 in her ultra fashionable short stretch terry robe in brown, with cream binded edges and tie belt. Worn with white daisy strap sandals. This Pretty pose looks great in it, it really shows off her long legs to perfection.

In 1977 Sindy wore a long, cosy terry toweling bath robe in white with brown trim at the edges, called 'Bath In Style'.... she would certainly do that in this lovely robe. Perfect for wrapping up in after a long, leisurley soak in the tub. The outfit was finished off with white sandals and a brown shower cap with white lace trim, a simple but yet pretty little outfit.

In contrast to Sindys long towelling bath robe, and for summer nights, Sindy wore 'Lullaby Lace' also in 1977. An absolute peach of an outfit in the most gorgeous crisp cotton with 'pierced' 'stripes' though it. In bright canary yellow. The nightie was quite fitted, above the knee and sleevless, wth delicate white lace trimming the neckline and used as shoulder straps. The matching house coat was in the same length, with short puff sleeves, the front of the house coat and edge of the sleeves trimmed in more delicate white lace. As a finishing touch, a yellow satin ribbon acted as a tie belt. Sindy wore white one strap sandals with this oufit.( the original had yellow bows on the front) One of her most pretty and delicate night time outfits and a firm favourite of mine.

'Cosy Wrap' (1978) is an often overlooked Sindy outfit, and to be fair it doesn't appear that often on Ebay. Sunshine Daily was the perfect Sindy for this cute little Baby Doll nightie and terry wrap. Short white smocked nightie finished in white lace, really simple, but really pretty. When the milkman calls, Sindy slips on her cosy red terry house coat with white piping trim and cord tie belt, plain white mules are used for slippers with this outfit.

'Winter Nights' were all toasty and cosy warm for Sindy back in 1979 in this beautiful rich yolk yellow bedtime outfit...Sindy wore a white stretch satin nightie which was elasticated at the waist, two shoulder straps matched the pretty red and yellow flower braiding that trimmed the hem of this full length creation, over this Sindy wore a stretch towelling housecoat, hooded, and also trimmed in the same matching braid, cute yellow fluffy mules completed this ´good enough to eat´outfit.

'Pyjama Party' (1979) picked up on the in colourof the 70's, rich chocolate brown. Used for this luxurious satin pyjama outfit, tied with a brown ribbon belt at the waist and finished in rich cream lace trim this could easily double up as a lounging outfit with it's almost 20's feel , Sindy could sip at a cocktail ,or brunch on the terrace on Sundays and look a million dollars!

In 1974 Sindy had 'Negligee' as well as 'Sleep Tight', maybe Sleep tight was her winter bedtime outfit, and Negligee her summer one. It certainly looks very summery, with a  baby pink nylon under 'dress' and net over dress speckled with 'raised' velour type pale orange, lemon and baby blue daisy type flowers and pretty butterflies. Trimmed with snow white lace and two sunshine yellow bows Sindy looks so pretty in in, with it Sindy wears her white one strap daisy sandals. A simple but well tailored and beautiful outfit. You can just imagine Sindy sipping freshly squeezed orange juice while laying in her Hollywood style bed, the summer sun streaming though her open bedroom window and the sound of the birds singing outside.....

The next year Sindy still had 'Sleep Tight' ! But Negligee had given way to 'Pleasant Dreams'. Made in a similar way to Negligee it consisted of a pink satin under 'dress' with the same pretty patterned net over dress as Negligee, white and pink lace was used to trim the baby doll style nightie, which was elasticated at the waist and had a simple V neck. Over this Sindy wore a net housecoat with raised velour flowers in baby pink, lemon and blue, Sindy again wore her white Daisy one strap sandals. Another very pretty summer bed time outfit.

'Dreamboat' was 1982's summer bedtime wear, an unusual shade of lavender satin was used for the full length nightie, trimmed with pretty pink lace, which matched the fluffy slippers on Sindy's dainty feet. Over this she wore a lace bolero style bed jacket with short sleeves in a pretty white and pink flower pattern. It certainly lives up to it's name as it really is a Dreamboat of an outfit and Sindy looks stunning in it, I've used my blonde Pretty Pose to show Dreamboat off to the maximum effect.

1976 saw Sindy retiring in 'Dreamy Lace'..an absolutley beautiful bedtime outfit in delicate lemon yellow and white lace. The nightie was sheer with a criss cross of lemon across it, Sindy's housecoat was of fine lace sprinkled with pretty daisy like flowers and trimmed at the edges with white lace. On her feet Sindy wore dainty fluffy lemon yellow mules. This really is a dream of an outfit. It also came with a lemon yellow ribbon to tie in a bow just below the bust.

Also in 1976, when those hot summer nights were just a bit too much to bare, Sindy slipped into her 'Shortie Nightie', a fun and very pretty baby doll nightie with matching panties and pink mule slippers. Tailored in crisp white cotton sprigged with pink roses and green leaves and finished at the hem in white lace, a pink bow adding a nice touch to the front just below the bust... another very simple Sindy outfit that really shows that ´less, is more ´!

A toasty warm winter nightie was the order of the 'day' in 1983 with 'Night Time'. Cotton poplin was used, in navy and white fine vertical stripes. The nightie was a simple 'sheath' shape, floor length with a curved front and back and splits at the side. Two pale blue shoulder straps and white lace with blue detail finished off the top of the nightie. Over this, Sindy wore a lovely house coat with long sleeves finished at the cuffs in the same lace as the nightie. The neck was 'V' shaped with a big white cotton collar, trimmed with the lace again. A pale blue ribbon 'belt' tied just under the bust. Sindy's accessories were a hard plastic, pink hot water bottle, a pale blue hand towel, pale blue fluffy mule slippers and a toilet bag in dolly bag style and the same material as her night time outfit. A really pretty, and very well detailed outfit with tons of play value.

For Sindys last year as we know her, Pedigree gave her one of her most gorgeous bedtime creations, and what a name as well, 'Beautiful Dreamer' made sure that's exactly what our little darling would be in this stunning white satin nightie, split to the knee and trimmed in pretty pink and white lace. Over this Sindy wore the most delicate of all bed jackets in fine net with the cutest pink velour polka dots sprinkled all over it, both the neck and cuffs were elasticated in soft gathers, and on her feet Sindy wore pale pink fluffy mules, goodnight beautiful Sindy.

Sweet Dreams Sindy

In 1979 Sindy had sweet Dreams...A basic body Sindy was introduced, with 'sleepy' eye's !..When she was standing up, her eyes were open, but when you lay her down in her bed, her eye's closed.

You either love or hate this edition, as she does look a little strange, her eyes seem to look a bit 'hollow' ..but love her or hate her, she's a nice addition to a Sindy collection. The first Sweet Dreams Sindy wore a nylon full length nightie in pale blue with a lace overlay and a large blue ribbon bow flowing from the neck. White lace trimmed the neckline, cuffs and hem.1980's Sweet Dreams Sindy wore a peach coloured full length nightie sprinkled with biege flowers and trimmed in brown lace at the neck, hem and shoulder straps. Sweet Dreams Sindy was also released in 'Good Morning' from 1978... below...This Sindy came to me as a 'doer upper' from a fellow collector, I trimmed her hair, which would have origanly been in the classic Sindy 'ballerina' tied back style, and boil permed it under as it was rather short.
