Sindy Our Pedigree Girl Of The 60's

Along with 'June and Schoolfriend', the girls weekly that had a story strip of 'The Sindy Set' every week, plus Sindy Club news, and the Sindy Annuals released each year, there were also a set of six Paperback book's of The Sindy Set's Adventures. Very much in the vein of 'The Famous Five', Sindy, Paul and Patch find themselves in exotic locations, and with mysteries to solve in every book ! Each book is standard paperback size and can be read in an evening, a great 'light', fun read, even for adults !

The front of each book proclaims.... ' with colourful pictures'...when in fact the pictures are only line drawings in black, with grey and one colour added to add some 'colour' to the otherwise monochrome picture, Never-the-less, the pictures are great, and just enough without overwhelming the reading material, these are more a reading book, than  picture book. Sindy is usually seen in her Weekenders, Summery Days or Dream Date outfits, Patch is almost always in her dungarees and head scarf, and Paul in his Casuals or London Look.Although other outfits are pictured. All but one book, are 112 pages long. Heres's a quick summary of each book, without giving anything away, if you want to know more, get the book ! Happy reading....

'The Curious Clock' , finds Sindy and Patch staying with Sindy's dotty model friend Cresida in London, you'll giggle at Cresida's 'blondeness' ! Patch wants to go to a local auction as there's a tennis racket she wants to bid for, Sindy takes her and ends up winning an antique clock, that's where the adventure begins ! Paul lives in London, with his flat mate Tom Saunders. Add to this an Italian Count and a friendly clock and Watch repairer, and Mike Roake who lives in Rat Warf Battersea...who's who and who did what ? Why is the clock so special ? And what does Patch get up to when Sindy goes out ?

This adventure finds Sindy, Paul and Patch on holiday with their friends  Jack and Helen Mead, Sindy had been bridesmaid to the Meads, no doubt it was Jack that gave her the pretty gold and pearl necklace that came with the Lemon Bridesmaids dress !? They are staying on the island of Tolsta off the Scottish Coast. The island is described as.....' It sloped down from the cliffs to a small valley in the centre, where they could see the roof and chimneys of a house...heather covered most of the open spaces, with patches of grass and some sturdy clumps of bushes...a few goats grazed near the cottage...sea birds circled and screeched overhead......'

 The house they stay in is big with no electricity and there are resident care takers who live in a cottage nearby. It doesn't take long before a clock turn's itself  around overnight, and a figure in a picture changes direction ! Screams are heard as they walk away from the house, and they are locked in a room !! And there's more !! What is going on ??? Who is responsable ?.....

At last an exoctic location ! This book finds Sindy, Paul and Patch in Africa, with Aunt Lucy, who's Doctor has advised a warm climate to help some chest trouble she's having. They are staying in Saada in southern Algeria, the descripitions are magical.......'palm trees overhung the narrow lane, which was of baked earth, trodden concrete hard by generations of plodding feet. On either side, behind those mud walls, were the old world gardens of Arab cultivators, where hundred-foot date palms lorded it over orange-trees, lemons, nectarines, and flowering bushes.........'.

 It's not long before mysterious strangers appear and the set are following and eve's dropping on evil plans ! Also, Sindy stops a rich Shieks horse before it manages to find the main road and get run over, and Patch goes off on one of her solo missions ! How will it all end ?.............

Back in the UK and Sindy and Patch are staying with their Uncle ..Mr.English ! Down on the coast.It's not long before Sindy and Patch are at yet another auction, but what do they win this time ? You'll be surprised ! Fun and adventure follow, they make new friends and discover some 'dark' secrets and goings on, another fun and enthralling read....

Not surprisingly, this adventure finds our trio in Texas ! Where Sindy and Paul and Patch are accompanying Aunt Martha, who has sold her prize Pekiniese dog 'Yo-Yo', to texas millionaire for his wifes birthday present.What follows is pure 'Sindy Set'...Adventures and daring rescues are on the menu, along with some friendly locals with great 'accents' !....Will Patch ever get to meet a real cowboy ? And who are Mrs and Mrs Newcombe ?...

This has to have the most relaxing begining of all the Sindy adventure books.....'Sindy swam slowly and easily, with lazy breast stroke, her face close to the surface. So clear was the water that she could see everything from the tiniest pebbles to the big black blobs that she knew were sea urchins....the water caressed her like molten silk, it was so warm she was hardly aware it was there. The sun blazed from a blue Italian sky.............'

The Sindy set find themselves on a wonderful holiday on the Italian Island of Capri, which Sindy had won in a magazine competition ! Once again there's high adventure and not too much holidaying for out intrepid trio, who is 'L'Uomo' ?? Sindy sets out to find the answers.......
