Sindy wears the pants in our house !

Sindy may have been given many pretty dresses and skirts thoughout the years, but she has also had her fair share of trousers, jeans and 'slacks'...lets take a close look at Sindy's 'pants fashions'......

In 1971 'Lovely Livley' Sindy was introduced wearing this sooo groovy jumpsuit in this phycadelic paisley print in bright pink, lilac and lemon. Wide flared bottomed pants, elasticated wrists and a turtle neck, finished off with a wide PVC white belt with large brass buckle ensured that Sindy was well on top of the fashion steaks, perhaps the issued white kitten heels were a little dated, but they still look great with this outfit. This Lovely Livley Sindy is a first edition and her hair is in fairly good condition considering she is 35 years old and has been well played with. Her face colouring is just beautiful.

In 1972 Sindy, or Vicki here in this case, wore an up-to-date trendy trouser suit in bright green, entitled 'Look Warm'. A nice thick cotton was used to make this suit, which featured a long coat style jacket with double breast detail white poppers, patch pockets and a large collar and lapels, the trousers were flared, and Sindy wore a pretty, fine nylon scarf and carried a textured white vinyl shoulder bag with white popper fastening. She also wore white ankle boots. The scarf and bag in this picture are reproductions made by Helen Carter of 'Sindy Repro, Sindys Boutique', see 'Hens Teeth' for more of Helens work and how to order your own reproductions.

In 1975 Pedigree issued 'Pretty Pose' Sindy, the basic 'bottom of the range' Sindy..little did they know, or us, that she would be a highly collectable Sindy all these years later. She really lived up to her name as well, beautiful face colouring and silky, curly hair. She was issued in a bright orange/red dungaree style outfit with groovy 70's felt apple motif on the bib. Under this she wore a yellow top, the one in the picture isn't the correct top, but it's close. The outfit was another one of those 'of the time' outfits with it's wide flares and motif, in fact my sister had one very similar ! One of Sindy's brightest and most fun 'trouser' outfits.

When of to the disco in 1971, Sindy wore 'Disco Party', an all in one 'catsuit' type outfit, very fashionable then. It was made in the brightest pink brush nylon ! Striped with a deeper fushia pink, with matching tie belt and a plain pink brush nylon shoulder bag with 'gold' chain and 'clasp'. A very simple design, sleevless with wide flares.I believe the outfit originally came with gold daisy strap sandals, but as I don't have these I've teamed it up with matching pink ones. June looks ready to hit the dance floor and light the place up in this highly fashionable, fun outfit.

'Sweater and Trousers' of 1974 saw Sindy in a yummy, snuggly white wool sweater with blue detail and large roll neck, teamed up with fashionable flared jeans, ideal for casual days out or those cosy afternoons in front of the TV watching the afternoon matinee.

In 1976 Sindy was literally looking at the world though 'rose tinted glasses' as she swished throught the first class lounge at the airport in her 'Joan Collins' look, entitled 'Jet Set'. A wonderful 'heavy' cotton suit in bright polar white, with black stitch detail on the jacket edges and large 70's style collar and lapels. Topping this was a bright yellow lapel flower in 'velveteen'. The pants were ultra flared, with turn ups, and Sindy wore plain white court shoes. Under her jacket Sindy wore a white blouse patterend with orange, brown and yellow, all the most trendy colours at the time. A wonderful example of Sindy at her most fashionable.,

In 1974 Carl Douglas hot the top of the carts with 'Kung Foo Fighting'..two years later in 1976, Sindy joined the Kung Foo set with her fashionable 'Mandarin' outfit. A very popular Sindy outfit with collectors. Sindy wore luxurious white satin pants with a wide leg, crisply pressed to within an inch of 'their' lives. Her Kimono style jacket was made of brightly coloured nylon, a laquer red background was covered in a Chinese print of rich sky bue, gold and bright green. The front edge and th end of the bell sleeves was edged in white satin binding, and a white satin 'belt' tied around Sindys waist. Sindy wore white bow front shoes with this very formal 'loungng' outfit. For a quick 'blast' of Carl Douglas singing 'Kung Foo Fighting' hit the link blow, enjoy....

In complete contrast to the previous years trouser outfit, in 1977 Sindy took up bird watching and became a fully fledged 'twitcher' in 'Country Set'. A fabulous play value set which I'm sure got many a child out there in the garden or park helping Sindy spot birds. Thick toffee coloured cotton was the order of the day for Sindy's sensible country outfit, the jacket was from the same pattern as 'Jet Set', this time with no fancy stitch detail or flower, but was 'dressed' up by the use of a beautiful forget-me-not blue flowerey blouse and canary yellow, satin ribbon 'cravat'. Sindy wore brown boots and tucked into these were her 'plus fours', beautifully tailored with cuffed bottoms ( plus fours are traditionaly worn with the actual 'trouser' hanging 4 inches below the cuff at the knee, Sindy's are a perefect scale copy) Funnily enough, these are the same style and colour as the cartoon character, Tin Tin's ! To top off Sindy's lovely country outfit, she carried a bright yellow pair on binoculars, perfectly co-ordinated with her cravat, and perfect for a spot of twitching out in the fields.

'Weekender' was a far cry from Sindy's first 'Weekenders' outfit in 1963, bought bang up to date for 1976, Sindy wore light denim flared jeans which hugged her tightly and flared out in huge flares. Her top was perfect for the heatwave of the summer of 76, a light and very fashionable halter neck top in a 'harlequin' design of jade, tomatoe, navy and white, with white binding finishing off the neck and hem and also used for the straps, which did up beind the neck and at the lower back, I love this outfit and it's been on my wish list ever since I first saw it, so I'm delighted to finally have it in my collection.

Meanwhile, back in the heart of the city, brunette Sindy was sporty a very different look to her blonde friend in the same year, 1977's 'Denim Double' captures the very heart and spirit of what wearing denim was about at that time in this perfect example of mid 70's denim fashion sporting all that made an outfit like this the height of fashion, the flared jeans with red stitch detail and real patch back pockets, the blousen style jacket with wide collar and juanty metal ships wheel detail, finished off with bright red slip on clogs.. makes this one of Sindy's most iconic fashion outfits of the time.

As a complete contrast to Pretty Pose of 1975, Starlight Sindy, issued in 1985 had long crimped hair and an amazing shiney 'jump suit', ready for the disco ! Issued in either 'red' or 'green' (brunette hair colour with the green) it had contrasting knee patches and belt, and turn ups at the hems and 'cuffs', this was very much in the vain of Sarah Brightmans 'I lost my heart to a starship trouper' outfit..and you can just imagine Sindy dancing along with 'Hot Gossip' to the latest mid 80's sounds....

This wonderful bight candy pink outfit was given to Sindy in 1983 and really brings a smile to your face. The perfect outfit for Space Fantasy Sindy to wear when not 'on duty'. In a 'nylon' searsucker fabric with a crisp cotton blouse underneath and high ruffled neck. I've teamed 'Candy Stripe' up with some court shoes from a later date. Sindy has had her hair done and is ready to go shopping with her friends.

In 1984 Sindy was given no less than 4 trouser outfits, plus a seperates outfit as well. 'French Connection' was her winter warmer. A very pretty pastel pink, blue and lavender on cream, sweater, kept Sindy toasty warm, she wore a cream knitted beret in true French style, and thick navy blue corduroy trousers tucked into rauched 'tucker' style boots, very fashionable at the time with 'new romantics' as well as main stream high street fashion. This particular fashion really looks great on brunette 'Beach Party' Sindy of the same year. Sindy's ready to go and help her friends buld a snowman in this toasty outfit.

Another 1984 creation, and yet another winter warmer is 'Outward Bound', Sindy's all set for a very stylish hiking holiday in this wonderful 'play value' outfit . Cornflower blue with red stripes were used on her knitted wool sweater and matching hat, topped with a lovely fluffy red pom pom, over this she wore the latest fashion, a body warmer, in quilted white satin with  cornflower blue trimmigs. Her trousers were almost identical to French Connection but were lined in white plastic !? Sure to keep the rain out on those mountain and moor hikes anyway. These tucked into bright red 'Tucker' style boots, and to match these she carried a red felt shoulder bag with red rope handle. And to take pictures of amazing sunsets and moors full of heather she also carried her up to the minute SLR camera.

'Cherry Pop' was the perfect name for this 1984 fun trouser outfit in bright pink cotton, with pretty white polka dots 'sprinkled' all over it. Matcing top and trousers with white braces were worn under a white cotton bolero style jacket with collar and lapel detail, and finished off with white clog mules. Sindy looks so pretty in this outfit, perfect for meeting up with friends at the local ice cream parlour.

'Well Suited' is, I think, a very under-rated Sindy outfit. But so beautifully made, and such wonderful colours. Sindy looked very smart in this 1984 suit of jade green cotton with pleated front trousers and patch pocket jacket with collar and lapel detail. Under this she wore a pretty crepe peach blouse with matching cumberband style belt and she even matched her pretty peach court shoes as well. Perfect for formal occaisions such as a Sunday Christening or job interview.

Dungarees made another show in 1985, this time in cornflower blue cotton with large breast pocket and unusual knee pockets and a matching cap. A deep pink top was worn underneath and matched Sindy's pink sneakers. 'Girl Friday' was just the thing to wear when Sindy did a spring clean or picked up the paper and paint to re-decorate her pretty bed room.

1979's 'Playtime' see's Sindy in the very fashionable 'jump suit' , many will remember Aneka Rice sporting them on the TV program 'Treasure Hunt', although we mostly saw the back of them ! This easy to wear fashion was made in pale blue cotton denim with red stitch detail, collar, lapels and patch breast pocket, with matching belt. To co-ordinate with the stitch detail Sindy wore red clog mules. Definatley a great outfit for weekends hunting round car boot sales for vintage Sindy dolls !

1981's 'Work and Play' used blue to great effect in the cowel necked 'nylon' top, with thick stripes of Royal and cornflower blue, really bringing out the blue of Sindy's beautiful eyes. These blues were seperated by thin stripes of white, matching up with the white cotton trousers and white one strap, wedged sandals. A really lovely casual outfit for spring days walking the dog in the park or picking blue bells in the woods.

'Casual Day' was perfect for just that, a casual day with friends or pottering in a summers garden. I've put this outfit on Gayle, Sindy's friend, as I think it really brings out the colour of Gayles exotic dark looks, and she also brings out the wonderful rich orange and canary yellow of the outfit, they compliment each other perfectly. Tailored in light, crisp cotton and nylon, the smock style top, so fashionable in 1974 when it was released, was matched to a fabulous pair of wide flared trousers, this is definatley an outfit very much of it's time, a perfect example of mid 70's high fashion.

Even more wonderful trouser outfits specially tailored for Sindy.....

This wonderful bright outfit would be what you would have found Sindy wearing in 1977. There on the toy shop shelf, brand new for that year, was, 'Weekender Sindy', a far cry from the original Weekender Sindy back in 1963 eh ! Sindy was a basic body type and wore a stetch nylon white 'T' shirt with Sindy written across the chest in red, Wide flared light cotton trousers covered her tiny feet, a great little outfit, fantastic colour and another so of it's time ensemble. It really was the perfect outfit for relaxing weekends. This outfit also came with a red shoulder bag.

In 1979 the designers gave Sindy another VERY 70's outift, and what an outfit to end the decade. Fashionable denim was used for the gently flaerd jeans, cropped waiscoat and shoulder bag with patch pocket, big enough to hold the latest Lou Reed album no doubt. The back of the jeans also had two real patch pockets. Sindy's shirt was made of cotton cheescloth in pale pink, which was matched with a long scarf, tied around her head in 'Hippy' style, Sindy accessorised with white wedged clog mules. A great oufit for summer picnics and rock festivals.

In 1972 Sindy wore 'Dungarees', although newly released June obviously took a fancy to them to ! 'Dungarees' were in pale pink cotton with very pale pink straps of ribbon and a pretty applique white daisy flower on the bib, lovely detailing. Under this she wore a crisp cotton blouse in matching pink and white gingham with large rounded edge collar and two white popper 'buttons', on her feet she wore white kitten heeled shoes. The perfect outfit for some fun and games at the local park with Patch.

It couldn't get much more wackier than this ! Even the name is wacky ! 'Zing-A-Ding' was Pedigree's 'gift' to Sindy for 1973. It really sums up those wild and wacky care free, fun 70's fashions where 'style' just went out the window and people dressed for the shear fun of it all. There's so much 70's style in this wonderful outfit, the extra wide flares, the almost luminous pink against the inky blue, with the bright yellow ric-rac trim adding more fun, the short waist coat and brimless 'Baker Boy' style 'cap'..The perfect outfit for a pop concert, or even to be part of a pop group in ! The outfit was made in a thickish  nylon, with a yellow 3/4 'bell' sleeve 'satin' type top. My beautiful brunette 70's hard head looks great in it, I tied her hair into pig tails as it's just as hair would have been worn with an outfit and hat like this.

1974's 'Red Flares' were another outfit to add to Sindy's 'Wacky Outifits' wardrobe ! But just so of their time ! This 'cat suit' was made in what I can only describe as nylon shower cap material ! The flares, waist and trim were in waffle effect nylon. Sindy would certainly have stood out in a crowd in this outfit, with it's white background covered in pretty red and yellow flowers, long patch pocket on the right thigh and huge red flares from the calf down. You can just see Sindy packing this for her holiday to the Spanish costa's and once there, joining in some lively Flemenco dancing ! Olè !..

This 1980 trendy jumpsuit was named 'Free wheeling', a bight canary yellow thick cotton with navy stitch detail, collar, patch breast pocket and front belt, Sindy wore white slip on mules with this outfit, a bright sunny look for those summer picnics and shopping trips, or maybe a visit to the zoo ?

The jump suit was still around in 1982, and Sindy was given a denim blue, crisp cotton one with collar and lapel detail and turned up short sleeves, round her neat little waist she wore a navy ribbon belt, and on her daitby feet she wore royal blue one strap wedged sandals. Apptley named 'Bue Skies' this outfit was very similar to 1979's 'Play Time.'

'Coffee Morning' of 1978 was quite different to that of 1964, but brown was still used, this time for the flared cotton trousers and tassle front court shoes. The top was so pretty, a very thick, almost upholstrey cotton was used in a peach/biege background sprinkled with orange and cornflower blue daisy type flowers intermingled with bright green leaves. It sported a smart collar and lapel detail and the ends of the 3/4 sleeves and hem were finished with a luxurious ruffle of the same fabric. A great deal of thought and effort went into the production this particular blouse and it really shows, Sindy looks stunning in it, and ready to serve up those capuccino's to anyone who will swap one for some gossip !

Another trouser outfit of 1979 was 'Rock N Roller', the trousers tailored in  thick navy cotton, tightly fitted all the way down to Sindys funky bright yellow sneakers. Sindy's sweater was made in either cotton jersey or stretch nylon, as is this one. A wonderful bright and cheerful striped design in bright yellow, navy and red, with navy V neck, hem and cuffs, just the thing to wear when listening to the latest tunes on the record player with friends.

One of Sindy's prettiest 'Pants' outfits was introduced in 1981, 'Beach Party', a much overlooked Sindy fashion, was a dungaree style outfit in crisp cotton searsucker with a white cotton halter strap neck. The colour was beautiful, a rich shade of pink with colourful stripes of royal blue, white, orange and magenta running down it, Sindy wore her simple one strap wedged sandals in white with this outfit and looked ready to turn all  heads at any beach party she attented.

Casuals and Seperates Trouser outfits.........

'Casual Cords' were Sindy's prefered trousers in 1971. A fabulous turquoise blue cotton corduroy was used in these casual baggy pants with belt loops and patch pockets, they showed Sindy tiny waist off to perfection and were very versatile, 1974's Funtime Sindy has slipped these on over her colouful striped play suit, she looks so bright and sunny in this outfit.

1983'a Casuals range included 'T-Shirt and Trousers', light crisp cotton was used in the smartly tailored trousers with waist pleats and turn ups at the narrow hems. To proove blue and green can be seen ! Sindy wore a navy cotton jersey T-Shirt with thin white stripes with a very nautical feel. Just the outfit for every day duties and socialising.

This wonderful casuals outfit was released in 1984, 'Matching trousers and top' was made in cool, crisp cotton with a rich tartan design in navy, yellow, red, white and green. Elasticated waist pants tapered down to the ankles and were topped with a capped sleeve top with large turtle style neck, cinched in at the waist with a white rope belt. This was almost too 'good' to be just as casuals range outfit, with it's almost 50's feel, it's smart enough for dinner parties as well as less formal events.

Another trouser outfit in the 1984 Casuals range was 'T-Shirt and Trousers', again using smartly tailored crisp cotton for the trousers, this time in bright red with a yellow silky cord tie belt. The T-Shirt was made of navy blue stretch nylon with an inset panel of white net at the V neck, the net was also used in the turned up short sleeves. A really bright, fun outfit for Sindy to look a million dollars in no matter what time of day.

Short pants !...............

In 1984 Sindy wore 'Top, Shorts and Skirt,' from her casuals range to the beach or pool side. Made in crisp, cool cotton, this brightly coloured outfit would insure Sindy was the bell of the beach. The short sleeved top and shorts were striped with navy, red, golden yellow and cornflower blue on a white background, and to co-ordinate with the golden yellow was a wrap round sarong style skirt. This titian Beach Party Sindy sets the outfit off to perfection.

When the day wore on and there was a slight chill in the air, Sindy slipped on her 'Jumper and Shorts', again from the 1984 Casuals range. Still using that gorgeous golden yellow, this time in a stretch nylon sweater with ribbed slash neck, cuffs and hem, twinned with royal blue crisp cotton shorts Sindy was sure to stay smart even when the sun went down.

'Sun Suit' from 1974 is definately a much overlooked Sindy fashion, this wonderful rich red cotton all in one flared shorts and halter neck top covered in white polka dots is just the thing for a stroll along the prom with a strawberry mivi ice cream. Sunshine Daily looks stunning in it as it shows off her neat little figure to perfection.

Coulotte style pants were tailored for Sindy in 1973, these wonderful cornflower blue needle cord coulottes have a pretty design of navy and green flowers and two denim patch pockets with 'gold' button details. Sindy's blouse was in white nylon with gathered cuffs and a very fashionable wide rounded collar, two pretty bead buttons finished it off and co-ordinated with the buttons on her coulottes. On her feet Sindy wore white lace up shoes, the following year (1974) these were issued in blue, and in 1975 the needlecord was issued in bright pink with the same flower design, with red lace up shoes.

In 1977 Sindy was given some more coulottes, this time a suit of crisp cool cotton with very 70's wide coller and lapels, and coulottes that could almost be mistaken for a flared skirt. Under her nipped in waist jaclet with back pleat detail, she wore a ribbed red sweater, and to match this, on her feet she wore bright red knee length boots, a fabulous outfit that would again insure Sindy would be the centre of attention wherever she went.

In 1969 Mary Quant dropped a bombshell on the fashion world by introducing Hot Pants ! Three years later in 1972 'Hot Pants' really sets off Trendy Girls shapely legs and dark, glossy hair.. She accessorises with knee length white boots. This is a great outfit, well made in the softest, yummiest blue velvet, again, very fashionable at the time, with an integral top of phsycadelic print cotton in bright pink, canary yellow, blue and white, the design is very much like that used by Versace years later. The shoulder straps of the hot pants are satin ribbon sewn onto the top. This is such a world away from the first Sindy fashions of 9 years previous, and shows how Pedigree tried to keep up with the latest trends, although always a few years out, as collections were obviously put together a year or so previous to there release I would imagine.

In 1985 'Beach Life' bought back HotPants ! Nobody could miss Sindy in these crisp cotton bright green bibbed hotpants, cinched at the waist by a white rope belt. Sindy wore a white cotton jersey top underneath with 3/4 gathered cuff sleeves, white nylon ankle socks and fabulous bright green court shoes. I love this outfit and it's certainly one of Sindy's more unusual ones, well worth a place in any collection.
